Commissioner Kerns, There was a fire that severely damaged this property last week that could be seen from highway 290. The pole building constructed maybe ten years ago had a fire and may be a complete loss. There's no power or water at the property but people are still living there in RVs it appears. It's a mess. The community needs the county's help getting this junkyard cleaned up. There's been no improvement. Commissioner Kerns, 23709 East Trent a problem property or the owner is using vacant land for storage of big rigs, construction equipment, travel trailers, and concrete rubble. According to code enforcement officer David Jensen there is a code enforcement complaint under investigation but David claims that he can't cite the property because he doesn't know whether he has a business or or if the equipment is running or not? He's probably depreciating the property or the equipment on his tax return. That's a business. WSDOT was likely involved recently in the moving of the imported concrete rubble on state highway right of way. I called WSDOT several years ago when it was rather obvious the owner of this property wanted to widen Trent shoulder to accommodate big rig parking. It seems Jensen is in a tough position but it almost seems like he just wants to avoid the confrontation and not do anything. This mess really reflects badly on our Newman Lake neighborhood especially right on on the state highway! There are people living on the property in travel trailers. Yet Avista says there hasn't been power to the property in 8 years. The county is in a bad situation as people are going to have diminished property values near this mess and may try to hold the county responsible. This has been going on since 2021. The county needs to step up and stop this mess like it did in Colbert with the removal of 750 cars on an acreage.
