- Although we can likely continue to work with our interim staffing structure until the next meeting (which would allow HR to give input), at some point
the Bench will need to formally “bless” the current structure that adds additional work by Court staff. The Bench has been supportive of the new changes to the LL, but we need to finalize it at some point.
To assist in formulating the staffing/organizational structure, I reviewed the bylaws for references to the law librarian. I attach the information below.
- Board members may recall being surprised to learn that the prior law librarian unilaterally submitted a class specification to HR for her position shortly
before she left. Once it was brought to the Board’s attention, we did not ratify or in any way approve. I couldn’t find it on the HR website, but they could be user error on my part. When I Googled it, I saw the attached and it appeared to come from Spokane
County’s website. Unfortunately, if it’s on the books, it’s one more thing we need to address with HR. We’ll need to ascertain if it approved job specs from an employee who did not obtain approval from the supervising entity.
Ashley, are you good with adding that to your conversation with HR?
Given the operational changes, I don’t know that the Board wants, can recruit, or needs to require the law librarian have a:
- “Master’s Degree from and [sic?] American Library Association program in Library and Information Science (MLIS OR MLS), and
- Three (3) years of professional library experience, preferably in a law library or legal research setting.”
